Why choose Trujillo? Because students have a vast panoply of subject matter from which to paint. In spring this includes panoramic landscape views filled with multicolored wild flowers growing together with vetches, poppies, french lavender, slipper orchids, all with a backdrop of snow capped mountains.
Other painting options include century old olive and cork trees nestled within walled sheep and cattle pens or the dramatic rock formations which punctuate the immediate countryside.
Trujillo is an extremely attractive medieval town, offering the student an opportunity to paint the fabulous 16th C manor houses which have survived to this day and are to be found scattered all over the town. These mansions were built by the wealthy conquistadors on their return from South America. The town is unique offering a wealth of diverse architectural styles ( Moorish, Romanesque, Gothic, Plateresque... to name but a few). All of this can be admired whilst winding your way through the cobbled streets of the Old Town up to the castle, defended by prickly pears and hovering kestrels.
Painting all of this, bathed in the magical pink light of Trujillo (in a pollution free environment), is a real pleasure.
Not to be missed are the spectacular sunsets and the sensuous star lit night skies.
This really is the perfect place to paint and indeed an ideal centre of tranquillity for any non-painting partners. Although the focus of the holiday is art there is plenty to do for the non painting companion including strolling through the enchanting cobbled streets, taking long walks in the countryside, bird watching, riding, golf, visiting other historical towns and indeed relaxing by the swimming pools with a good novel and a glass of wine.
