| 1. |
On leaving the airport terminal, follow the sign Madrid Sur
/ Salidas and head out towards the M30 and M40. This is a stretch
of road that runs parallel to the airport and which will lead
you to the motorway.
|
| 2. |
After about 1 mile you will see that this road splits into
two - the M30 to Madrid (right) and the M40 (left). Follow the
M40 Sur (left). The M40 is the equivalent of the M25.
|
| 3. |
Stay on the M40 for about 8 - 10 miles, always following the
direction of R5 towards Badajoz. |
| 4. |
After about 8 - 10 miles there is quite a tricky turning off
the M40 in order to follow the R5 (R5 is a toll motorway) marked
BADAJOZ.
|
| 5. |
You should now be on the R5 which becomes the A5. This is
the road that you will follow until you get to Trujillo. You
are now approximately 220km from Trujillo. |
| 6. |
Keep following A5 towards Badajoz. Major towns you will pass
on the way include:
a. Talavera de la Reina (100km from Madrid)
b. Oropesa
c. Navalmoral de la Mata (180km from Madrid)
d. Almaraz (a nuclear power station town). |
| 7. |
After Almaraz you will note that you are going up hill (still
on the motorway) into some hills. You will go through a tunnel
at the top of the hill. Keep going, following signs for Trujillo. |
| 8. |
There are 2 exit junctions for Trujillo off the motorway.
Either will do, but take the 2nd exit as it is easier to get
into town this way. |
| 9. |
Once off the motorway, the slip road you come into is the
E208 Avenida de la Virgen de Guadalupe. Take a right at the
bottom of the slip road towards Trujillo. With any luck, you
will be able to see the Castle lit up in front of you. You will
be heading up to the top of the town as we are right next door
to the castle. |
| 10. |
Follow the E208 towards Trujillo. This is less than 1.5 km
/ 3 minutes journey. You will get to a cross roads just after
the bullring on your left. Cross over the cross roads and head
straight over, towards “Centro Ciudad” or town centre.
|
| 11. |
11. Carry on towards “Centro Cuidad” where you will come to mini
roundabout. Take the second exit (i.e. straight over). Follow this road
(which is now in the town) past the Izan Hotel (formerly Melia) on your
right, past the Church (on your left) and up through narrow streets,
following signs to “Plaza Mayor” (Main Square). |
| |
The Izan Hotel is a good place for us to meet you and guide you
from there to the house, should you prefer this arrangement. Call Juan
Garton on his mobile 659 281 134.
|
| 12. |
If the plaza mayor is closed follow instructions below (see
points 15 onwards). Otherwise, go through plaza mayor and cross
(round the fountain) diagonally to the other side of the square.
Keep going straight at the end of the square (with the Church
of San Martin on your left) and after about 250 yds take the
turning up hill to your left following signs to “Castillo”
(the Castle). This is the road that leads up to the “Old”
part of the town. Follow this road up the hill for 500 yds.
|
| 13. |
You will go under a large arch and then will see a sign to
the Castle right in front of you (about 50 yds past the arch
further uphill). Take a right here and then an immediate left. |
| 14. |
Follow this road approx 250 yds further uphill, where the
road will suddenly flatten out. You should have a large Church
on your left with 2 towers… The house you will be staying
in is directly in front of you. The entrance door is on the far
left hand corner of the house. |
| 15. |
If the main square is closed, there will be a bollard in the
middle of the road which means you will have to turn left. |
| 16. |
Take a left at the bollard, and keep going up. You will go for
200 yds uphill where you should take the first possible right. |
| 17. |
Follow this road up hill where after 50 yds the road bends
steeply uphill to the left. Follow this road up for a further 50 yds,
where you will turn left, from hereon follow the instructions as at
point 13. |
